We are excited to announce that we will be opening up a Wytheville Office in February 2011! The office is located in the Wythe Bland Medical Building in Suite F on the Wythe Hospital campus.
The office will be open one day a week every other week to begin with and hopefully as things pick up we can increase to one or two days every week. In the morning, we will perform Gyn surgeries at Wythe County Community Hospital with a special emphasis on Minimally Invasive Surgery, and then see patients who have been referred for consultations in the afternoon.
In February 2011, we will also begin providing Gyn Surgical services at Lewis Gale Montgomery Regional Hospital!
We are still in the process of finalizing our Blacksburg office plans but we hope to provide patient consultations at least one day every other week with the ability to increase to weekly hours as we become busier.
To schedule surgical consultations for Wythe County Community Hospital or for Lewis Gale Montgomery Regional Hospital, call the "home" office and ask for our Surgical Care Coordinator, Kelly Bishop.
Best Regards....

Now Offering In Office Surgery!
We are excited to start offering In Office Surgery for treatment of abnormal and heavy bleeding with endometrial ablation with Gynecare Thermachoice or Novasure! We are also providing other minor procedures such as D&C and Hysteroscopy(looking into the uterine cavity) for removal of polyps and LEEP conization for treatment of cervical precancers.
Our first day of In Office Surgery on Friday January 21st was a huge success! The ablation surgery itself takes about 15 minutes and total time in the office is about 1-1/2 hours. We have an anesthesiologist who handles the sedation so there is no discomfort during the surgery. Recovery has been a breeze and most patients were surprised to wake up and find the procedure over. In fact, we had a few who were "mad" texting family and friends immediately after.
The cost savings with In Office Surgery quite substantial when compared to the same procedure done in a surgery center or in a hospital. For example, for an endometrial ablation performed in the office, the cost for patients is either an office co-pay or 10-20% of the procedure cost which is around $4,000. Compared to costs of $8,000 to $18,000 for the same procedure done in a surgery center or in a hospital....the savings are exponential!
If you are having problems with heavy bleeding, irregular bleeding or severe cramping with your menstrual cycle, be sure to ask your doctor or nurse practitioner about the ablation procedure and whether it is right for you. It is a cost effective procedure to reduce or eliminate your bleeding and discomfort with your cycle short of having a hysterectomy and can be performed as an In Office Surgery.
On a sports note, if you are a Hokies Sports fan, check out the 4th ranked Hokie Wrestling Team. Led by local and former Christiansburg Coach Kevin Dresser, they have risen to national prominence with a 2nd place win at the Cliff Keen National Duals. The home matches in Cassell are exciting and free!
Until next time..;
